Petition to Save Lives
The Petition
One moment's distraction can take a life needlessly. . We can stop this senseless death toll. Not to would be negligent.
Presently there is no law to guard against these tragedies, but the National Highway Transportion & Safety Administration has requested comments regarding a technology being considered. It requires seat belt sensors in the back seat that sound an alarm If the car is vacated with the belts still fastened. This manor of solution leaves room for the deadliest component in the situation, Human error.
That problem has been solved by an engineer-designed System For Preventing Overheating in a Vehicle Interior. In the three years before airbags came on the scene, there were 11 known deaths of hyperthermia due to entrapment. In the last three years, with the relegation of children to the back seat, 110 known children and countless pets have died in this manner.
Since 1998, almost 500 children and an unknown number of animals were killed. The irony is most of the parts necessary to build this life saving device are already being installed. They are used in applications of convenience ie; keys left in ignition warning, headlights left on, door open, etc.
We only have seat belts and airbags, because of Congressional intervention. Please sign this and make sure some of your tax dollars are put to good use.
